Julie Fraser
Julie Fraser
Julie Fraser was born and raised in Christchurch and became profoundly Deaf at the age of five. She is married with two children. Julie was inspired to become a teacher to share the richness of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and Deaf culture, and to highlight the importance of communication between Deaf and hearing communities. Her motivation stems from recognising that the barriers she faced growing up are still present today. For the past seven years, she has taught NZSL through her own business, Sign Equity, delivering classes across Canterbury. Julie is also the sole NZSL teacher at both the University of Canterbury and Lincoln University.
