Papanui High School has adopted an amendment to its current enrolment scheme that has been approved by the Secretary for Education. Under this scheme, students will be enrolled if they live within the home zone which predominately remains the same, with a minor expansion of the zone in the Northern end. The enrolment of out-of-zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education Act 1989.

Addresses on both sides of boundary roads are considered in-zone unless specified otherwise.
Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date that will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. This will enable the board to assess the number of places that can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.
