Principal's Weekly Review

Kia ora,

The school has quickly settled back into our teaching and learning programmes, with many students engaging in that nice balance of curriculum and co-curriculum activities.  For example, Football and Basketball have begun and winter sport starts next week, a large number of students are involved in rehearsals for the school production (Week 8), the annual band camp at Hanmer Springs takes place this weekend, our Service Council is supporting a number of fundraisers, and the usual array of curriculum-based trips are operating to enhance student’ learning.

Learning beyond the walls of a classroom is an important component of what we do here.  The opportunity to include authentic and enhanced learning opportunities is critical to support student engagement, and to potentially see the ‘bigger picture’ of what the learning means and/or where it might fit with their future aspirations.

Congratulations to the Year 9 and 10 students who competed in the inaugural New Zealand da Vinci Decathlon this week.  The Year 10 team gained a silver medal.  You can find more information on the following page.

I would like to remind parents and caregivers of the forthcoming Senior Parent/Teacher evening for our Year 11, 12, and 13 students on Thursday 11th May starting at 6.00pm.  Information on how to book appointments for the evening with your student’s subject teachers was sent out last week.  If you haven’t received this or having difficulties booking, please contact the school office on 352 6119.  We look forward to seeing you there.

OPEN EVENING – WEDNESDAY 17th MAY

On Wednesday 17th May we are holding our Open Evening starting at 6.30pm.  This involves all staff and significant numbers of students.  To allow the staff and students time for preparation, school will finish on Wednesday at the end of Period 5, 1.45pm.

The school will look to inform you on Monday, once we have been advised by the PPTA General Secretary.

If the strike does go ahead the school will have very limited supervision available.  Please contact the school office [email protected] or phone the school (352 6119) if you require supervision for your child.
