Kia ora,
On Monday evening the PTA held their monthly meeting. A component of this is to have a guest speaker, on this occasion Mr Hall spoke about the NCEA changes for 2024 and beyond. The PTA like to offer a range of speakers that they feel will have interest to our school community, and offer an open invite to attend these. These are usually advertised in our newsletter.
Wednesday evening saw the school hold its annual Open Evening. The weather was kind, and the evening was very well attended, with an estimated attendance of around 1000 people. I am very pleased that so many people from our community took the time to come into our school to see what makes Papanui High School such a wonderful place for students to learn. We all know that choosing a secondary school for a child is a very important decision, and one that should not be made lightly. By visiting the school, our community had an opportunity to see the combined energy and enthusiasm of both our students and staff, who are the best ‘advertisement’ for our school. Also, their walking tour enabled them to view the school’s facilities, and make an informed choice about whether this is the right school for their child.
I would like to thank the over 100 student guides, and 100’s of other students, who helped in the different subject areas. Equally, I would like to thank our very dedicated and passionate staff. Feedback from people attending was extremely complimentary, as they were full of praise for the staff, the student helpers, for what the school looks like, and stands for. I would also like to thank and acknowledge members of the PTA for providing light refreshments on the night.
On Friday the school participated in the national ‘Speak up, stand together, stop bullying’ awareness day. Our school and society must be a place where all people feel safe, valued, and respective. It was great to see so many students and staff wearing pink, and showing their support.
