Kia ora,
This week we have been treated to a variety of cultural experiences which have reinforced the diversity and the range of opportunities we have to connect to each other at Papanui High School.
On Tuesday staff and students were treated to an international food fair by our Adult International Students. There were many tasty treats from a variety of countries. On Wednesday evening we held our Fiafia night. This was the final dress rehearsal for our Pasifika group before they perform at Hagley Park on Saturday. I would like to thank parents/caregivers and members of the community who came and supported the performance. We wish them all the best.
On Friday we welcomed a small group of 12 students and 2 teachers from Hieizan High School in Japan, they will be on school campus from Friday 17 - Friday 24 March. They were formally welcomed with a pōwhiri and are being buddied by our students as they participate in a ‘Kiwi’ experience.
We are looking forward to engaging with whānau next week in different ways. Academic Celebration Day is on Monday which is the chance for all seniors to think about their personal academic goals as well as share in the success of students from last year who achieved NCEA endorsements. Then on Thursday, caregivers of junior students have been invited to participate in Parent/Teacher meetings. It has been a pleasure to be able to offer increased opportunities for whānau to come in and discuss learning with teachers this year and we know that many of you are looking forward to it.
On Monday night (20th March) the PTA will be holding their Annual General Meeting, which includes the election of the committee. The AGM will be held in the staffroom at 7.00pm, followed by their regular meeting at 7.30pm. All parents are welcome to come along, ask questions, and stay for a cup of coffee or tea.
Good luck to our volleyball teams and athletes who are competing in regional competitions over the weekend.
Ngā mihi
