SAFETY NOTICE: Trains resume 24/7 services from 7 October 2018

There will be a change in the timetabling for trains along the railway line between Picton and Christchurch from early October and we need to ensure students and their families are aware of this.

Over the past year, KiwiRail has run a restricted schedule, with trains running only at night, to allow work to continue to repair the road and rail line through Kaikōura during the day.

However, from early October, trains will begin using the line during the day as well.

Our key safety messages are:

  • Always expect trains, at any time, from either direction
  • If you are in a car, always slow down as you’re approaching a level crossing and be prepared to STOP
  • Look out for trains at all times, and obey signs and signals
  • Stay off railway tracks and only ever cross the railway at approved railway level crossing points.
