Principal's Weekly Review 29th May 2020

Kia ora,

This week brought another step closer to a return to our regular teaching and learning programme.  This included starting the day with Period 1, and form time returning to just before interval.  After working through the previous week, which focussed on well-being, re-connecting, and assessing students’ readiness to learn, Friday’s Staff Only Day gave us an opportunity to use that information, and plan our learning programmes for the remainder of the year.

During the week the Government announced a change to the Level 2 gathering numbers.  This means that with increased gathering numbers to 100 the school will have an opportunity to widen its bubble for visitors supporting curriculum delivery, involvement in co-curricular activities with other schools or groups, and for parents and caregivers to come into the school to attend events.  From Tuesday the 2nd June, Year 13 students will now be able to be off site, including going to Northlands Mall, during their scheduled timetabled study periods.  We will also continue to release Year 9 and Year 10 students at 2.25pm each day to continue to help manage student and traffic congestion.

It is important to remember we are still operating under the conditions of Alert Level 2.   There has an increase to group sizes, and therefore more potential interaction between our school bubble and the wider community, therefore contact tracing and following the hygiene protocols remain essential.

We look forward to further relaxation of the Alert Level 2 status, and the potential to be able to engage in a number of our larger events that form part of our school year.

I hope the long weekend provides an opportunity for some rest and relaxation.

He waka eke noa – We are all in this together.

Jeff Smith
