Principal's Weekly Review 28th June 2019

Kia Ora,

Tonight (28th June) approximately 480 of our senior students will be enjoying our senior school formal at the University of Canterbury’s ‘Foundry’.  I would like to thank Ms Tanya Sapwell, and Mr Paul Anderson our Year 13 and 12 Deans respectively, as well as the student led Formal organising committee for all of the effort and time they have put in to organising this event.

With only one week to go before the end of term, our students continue to be very busy both in and out of the classroom.  This week a large group of Year 12 students have been involved in a Mountain-bike camping experience at Hanmer Springs, next week a group of Year 11 students travel to Dunedin for the ‘Brain Bee’ Neuroscience Challenge, Year 12 Physics students will make visit to the University of Canterbury, and the Year 12 Leadership group will attend a conference at Christ’s College.

During the week we had our last combined assemblies for the term.  These assemblies give us an opportunity to celebrate some of the successes our students have achieved, and to pass on important school wide information.  Over the last few weeks we have had a significant number of students and staff away with sickness.  It was important to share with the students some of the challenges of getting relief teachers to take classes.  Unfortunately, even many of our regular relief teachers are unwell.  To that end, a number of teachers are offering their non contact time to take classes in which we cannot find a replacement.  I am incredibly grateful that our staff are prepared to do these things, as they understand how important it is for learning to continue as much as possible in its normal setting.  The assembly also gave us an opportunity to acknowledge and start the process of farewelling Mr Vannoort, who departs at the end of this term.  Sam Clarke from the Head Student spoke on behalf of the students in farewelling Mr Vannoort, and a rousing haka was performed in acknowledgement of his service to Papanui High School, and the respect our student body has for him.

I would like to remind parents and caregivers of the upcoming Junior Report Evening for our Year 9 and 10 students on Thursday 4th July, between 6.00pm and 9.00pm.  We would encourage all parents and caregivers to make interview bookings via the school interviews website:
