This week brought in the second wave of thank you’s, acknowledgements, farewells, culminating in our Junior Prize givings on 12th December. We started this off with the international homestay BBQ on Thursday. This was an opportunity to thank and acknowledge the support of the families who look after our international students, and the international department for their work this year. Also on that evening the pot luck whānau dinner was held. I would like to thank the parents and whānau who were able to attend. Students from the whānau class were recognized for their contributions over the year and four awards were presented. I would like to thank Matua Te Haere Stirling, and whaea Nicole Herbert, and whaea Jay Grubb for their support of our rangatahi and whānau.
Thursday also saw the completion of the NCEA exams. I’d like to congratulate the students on the manner in which they conducted themselves during the exams, and thank the staff for overseeing the process. Senior sign-out for Year 11—13 students was held on Friday.
Next week the final two Year 10 Outdoor Education camps will take place, a large number of Year 12’s will return to take part in Peer Support training, the Aiga BBQ, Leavers Dinner, Kimi Ora Celebration will all take place, the final Board meeting for 2023, finishing the week with Activities Day on Friday. Junior Prize giving will take place on Tuesday of the following week.
On a personal note, I would really like to thank our school community for the celebratory events that were held on Friday as part of my farewell. This included a ‘celebrity’ staff vs student Touch match featuring some of our famous sporting alumni, a special junior school assembly in the afternoon featuring performances by students and guest speakers, and an early evening celebration with ex staff, current staff and invited guests. Being the Principal has an absolute privilege, and I am incredibly grateful for the acknowledgements I have received. I look forward to seeing out the remainder of the year, and preparing for the hand-over to the new Principal, Mr Robert Gilbert, who starts late January next year.
