Principal's Weekly Review 17th May 2019

Next Tuesday evening is our ‘Open Night’, where we welcome prospective parents and students to view our wonderful facilities, and see the school ‘in action’.  We look forward to hosting all visitors, and thank the hundreds of students who will be helping as guides and subject helpers.  A reminder that school will finish at 1.45pm on Tuesday 21st May to allow staff and students to prepare for the Open Night.

During the week we had an opportunity to complete our visits our contributing schools.  Having visited Breens Intermediate the week previous, this week we concluded the process, by visiting Casebrook, Belfast, and Heaton.  Our Year 9 and 13 ambassadors thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to return to their previous schools and share their perspective of what Papanui High School has to offer, answered questions, and strongly encouraged those who are seeking co-educational learning, that Papanui High School is the place to be.

On Friday the school participated in the national – ‘Speak up, and stand together to stop bullying’ awareness day. Our school and society must be a place where all people feel safe, valued, and respected.  It was great to see so many students and staff wearing pink, and showing their support.

Michael Stevenson PPTA General Secretary has forwarded the Preliminary Notice of a strike.  The three key points are as follows

  • The school as received a preliminary notification of a strike. In accordance with the requirements of the Employment Relations Act, formal notice of the strike will be provided three days prior to the commencement of the strike.
  • The nature of the strike is a cessation of work by all PPTA members whose employment falls under the coverage clause of the Secondary Teachers' Collective Agreement 28 October 2015 – 27 October 2018.
  • The strike day will be Wednesday 29 May 2019. The schools affected by the strike are all New Zealand state and state integrated secondary schools.

On Wednesday 22nd, the Associate Principal, Mr Vannoort and I, will be attending a conference in Brisbane until Sunday 26th.  In my absence Mr Kirby will be Acting Principal.
