Principals Weekly Review- 10th August 2018

I would like to thank, the fifty randomly selected 15 year old students, who were participated in the PISA Study.  The Programme for International Student Assessment, is a three yearly study organised by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development), includes 34 countries, and the results are used  to gain a measure of understanding of  how each countries education systems are preparing students for success and informed citizenship after finishing school.  The students can be congratulated for their attitude and effort in completing three different assessment tasks over a three hour period.

This week the Papanui High School Jazz Band and the Papanui High School Jazz Combo are once again competing at the Southern Jam in Blenheim with over 20 other bands from around New Zealand.  This trip sees the best Jazz and Contemperary musicians perform at a very high level.  Both groups are out to defend their gold placings from last year.  We wish them all the very best.

Next Thursday evening the 16th of August is our Senior Course Selection evening.  We would encourage all parents, caregivers and whānau to attend this evening with their child.  This evening is critically important as it provides an opportunity for students and families to cross reference conversation with the subject teachers and the many external providers that come in.  From this, informed discussions can be made about subject choices for the following year, and how they link to career pathways.   Current Year 11 students meet in the Hall at 6.30 pm whilst current Year 12 students meet in the Study Centre (G1) at 7:00pm.  This will be followed by an opportunity to meet with subject teachers, tertiary and other providers in J Block.

Following the Course Selection Evening, there will be an opportunity on Friday, to discuss options for next year as part of the Senior Academic Counselling day.

Congratulations to Isabella Tagiilima (Year 13) who came 2nd at the Christchurch Samoan Speech competitions recently.  She qualified to fly to Wellington to represent the South Island, and came 2nd in the finals. Isabella won the Fofoa accommodation scholarship to Otago University.
