COVID19 is continuing to have a significant impact on our community; staff, students and our wider families.  The following information is to help you with areas that you may have questions about.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions by emailing [email protected]

Hybrid Learning

To support our Hybrid Model of Teaching and Learning, we have put a Google Meet timetable in place that runs concurrently with our on-site timetable. The Google Meets are taking place to keep students at home connected with school and to offer some learning support to students who need to take time away from on-site learning.  Please be mindful that teachers will have students on-site in front of them whilst they are conducting their Google Meets, so teachers’ focus may be split at times. If a teacher does not join a Google Meet, it may be that they are unavailable for this session. We ask that students are patient, wait for 5 minutes, before leaving the Google Meet if a teacher is not present. If a student needs further support, teachers can be emailed directly, with the understanding that they too may not be operating at full capacity.

Google Meet Timetable

Year 9 students have the opportunity to join a Google meet at 11.35am each day through their core class google classroom

Year 10 students have the opportunity to join a Google meet at 10.45am each day through their core class google classroom

Senior students have two Google meets for each subject and these occur at the same time they would usually have their class if on-site, as indicated below

Devices.

The classwork for hybrid learning and our senior students is available in the student’s Google classroom.  Most of our students have access to these via a Chromebook or Laptop.  If your child doesn’t have access to a device most of the content can be accessed through a smartphone.  We have a very limited number of devices available for students and these are mainly being prioritized for students at school to use.  If you do not have internet access at home we can ask the Ministry of Education to help with this.  Please contact Louisa Clissold [email protected] for assistance with this.

Looking after yourself and your family.

We are aware that the presence of the Omicron variant of COVID 19 in the community is creating stress for some families with anxiety about what to do if someone in the family gets sick and how to self isolate.  The following link provides information about this and also lists some contacts if you need some extra support.  COVID 19 Support. Please let the school know your child is unwell by emailing [email protected]

Our school counsellors are available to students who are isolating or unwell if needed. Visit  Student Support @ PHS to get more information about how our student support team may be able to help your young person.

He waka eke noa.  We are all in this together.

One of the impacts that COVID 19 is having on the school is an increased number of relievers and staff covering classes for their colleagues. This means that some of our students are being taught by a lot of new teachers in a day and for some students it is making them feel a little unsettled.  Please be aware of this and talk to your young person about managing change.  Please reach out to your child’s form teacher or Dean if you think they are struggling for any reason.
