Principal's Weekly Review.  3rd August 2018

Last Tuesday we held our Senior Report evening.  I would like to thank the large number of families/whanau who were able to attend. We hope you found this evening supportive.  Evenings like this form part of our on-going commitment to providing information and opportunities to gain a greater understanding of the progress your child is making by talking with their subject teachers. I would also like to acknowledge and thank the PTA for providing light refreshments on the night.  The information received on the night will also help support students as they go into discussions with their Academic Counsellor on Friday 17th August, and for the Year 11 and 12 with their course selection for 2019.

On Friday I attended the Secondary Principals’ Day at the University of Canterbury.  This day is an opportunity for Principals from all around New Zealand to meet the new secondary education graduates. It was quite noticeable that the national demand for teachers, and in a number of subject areas, is very high.  This was clearly evident by the large number of Principals present.

Equally, it is important that graduates are given the opportunity to hear and understand the differing philosophies around education delivery, including comparing and contrasting co-educational, single sex, private, and integrated/special character schools.  This will support their decision making when they are applying for a position in a school.

The next two weeks are very busy for our Music groups.  This weekend sees the Jazz Quest Big Band Competitions, and on Thursday they travel to the annual Southern Jam Festival in Nelson.  Traditionally our students do very at both events, and we wish them every success this year.
