Principal's Weekly News- 1 June 2018

This week sees us reach the half-way point through Term 2.  Students and families will enjoy a timely break with the long weekend, including Teacher Only Day on Friday, and Queen’s Birthday on Monday.

June also signals the start of winter, and I would encourage students to make sure they wear the appropriate school uniform, which includes the school jersey and the school jacket.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind our school community of our school values, which are reflected in the word ‘PRIDE’:

       Be Positive

       Be Respectful

   Show Integrity

             Dare to excel

             Engage in learning

We want all of our students to achieve to their potential, both academically and in their co-curricular activities, but we also want our students to be good people, who contribute positively to our community and to wider society.  The key part of our role as educators is to prepare students for life beyond school, either pursuing further tertiary education, or in the workplace.  Employers continually remind us of the key skills they are looking for when employing young people.  The skills they list, and that they seek are: a positive attitude, the ability to communicate, being able to work as part of a team, self management, the willingness to learn, being resilient, and the ability to problem solve and make decisions.  Developing these skills is a key part of what we do at Papanui High School, to prepare your child for life beyond school, and in the workforce.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Papanui High School, and I wish you well for the long weekend, and safe travels if you are heading away.
